Description

Through the application of a human rights-based approach Wicklow Primary Care Traveller Project aims-

• To access and disseminate health information to the Traveller community and contribute to the promotion of health.

• To promote Traveller participation in health-related issues, health infrastructure and develop an advocacy role within the community, across the life cycle.

• To identify the health needs of Travellers, including emerging issues, and facilitate dialogue between health service providers and the Traveller community to promote knowledge and understanding among health services to make appropriate provision for Travellers, and to reduce disparities in health service delivery and provision.

• To ensure the specific health needs of Travellers are identified and addressed.

• To liaise and work with other relevant statutory, community and voluntary organisations as appropriate.

• To engage in health promotion with Traveller Men and support opportunities for men to engage in positive mental health and physical activities in Co Wicklow.

• To facilitate Traveller Culture Awareness training with Service providers in Co. Wicklow to improve Traveller inclusion at all levels. inclusion and engagement with Primary Care and promotion of an ethnic identifier within HSE Mental Health and Primary care services.

• To engage with older Travellers to promote positive health and wellbeing activities.

• Improve the knowledge and experiences of Traveller women of childbearing age within the context of prenatal and postnatal care across emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing domains. Including supporting families experiencing loss through miscarriage and stillbirth.

• To improve Traveller mortality rates and reduce morbidity across the entire age spectrum.
