Baby Sign Language

For parents to connect with other parents with babies of a similar age and to teach their babies to communicate before they can talk. For babies of up to 1 years of age, this course is aimed at Parents teaching Irish sign language through nursery rhymes and poems so that you can teach your baby basic signs.

Sibling Bullying

This is a talk about an overlooked and unrecognised form of bullying. Sibling Bullying is different from the usual family rows and bickering. It is more prevalent than school bullying. Research finds that between one third and one half of people experience it. This talk aims to inform the community what it is, what it looks like, how to recognise it and how to deal with it. It is also for victims of sibling bullying to help validate and understand their experiences.

Developing Play Skills for Children with ASD

Play is the main occupation of a child which promotes engagement and learning, independent performance, social inclusion and the development of visual motor skills and life skills. Play is the foundation of learning to socialize with others and typically happens, voluntarily or spontaneously. For individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) play is often characterized by deficits in reciprocal social, communication, and restricted and repetitive stereotyped patterns of behaviour. In this talk we will discuss practical advice and strategies for parents and caregivers on the following topics:
• The nature and typical development of play
• Using play to develop fine motor, visual perceptual skills and life skills
• Using play to develop language skills, social and emotional skills and problem-solving and thinking skills
• How to promote children with ASD’s engagement in functionally appropriate play
